Lab overview: The focus here is on small and medium sized businesses, ranging from home office to remote office to small company with a handful of servers and less than 100 clients.

Since 11 of my 13 books have "NetWare" in the title, and Novell grew to prominence helping small and medium businesses grow, the focus here remains on NetWare and complementary technologies. Windows NT and 2000 systems are in place, as are two Linux server appliances.

Equipment in the lab:

• Compaq ProLiant ML330 server with 512MB RAM and 9GB SCSI hard drive.
  
• Two Linux appliances from Rebel / NetWinder.
  
• LinkSys StackProII 10/100 24-port hub.
  
• Avocent DS1800 IP-based KVM system.
  
• Intel InBusiness 25GB Network Attached Storage box.
  
• HomePlug powerline networking equipment.
  
• Wireless Ethernet 802.11b base station and client.
  
• Assorted PC clients and one Macintosh client.
  
• Yamaha PSR-170 electronic keyboard.
  
• Fostex VF-16 Digital Audio Workstation with 24 tracks and 5.1GB hard disk.
  
• Assorted microphones, mixers, and sound cards for music transfer.

Software in the lab:

• All NetWare server software, including NetWare 6 and NetWare 6 for Small Business.
  
• Windows 98/NT/2000
  
• Apple OS9
  
• Triticom network analysis/packet capture software.

Network Connections:

• ATT cable modem
  
• Dialup
  
• In negotiations with HNS DIRECWAY Satellite business connection for evaluation period.
