Miercom, is a privately held Princeton Junction, NJ-based network consultancy, specializes in networking and communications-related product analysis and testing, consulting and research. Miercom’s highly-skilled employees, many with over 20 years experience in the networking industry, have developed methodologies for testing products from voice over IP equipment to storage area networks.

Leading technology companies submit their products for Miercom for review in anticipation of earning its prestigious "NetWORKS As Advertised" award. Only products that meet stringent test requirements, including product-usability and performance capability, receive it. Miercom also offers on- and off-site diagnostic consultation, equipment recommendation and selection, cabling/fiber planning and design, installation of high-end equipment, assistance with customized strategic network planning and direction, specialized technology reports, and technical guides. Miercom, founded in 1988, is an independent networking consultancy and product test center located in Princeton Junction, NJ. The company pioneered the comparative assessment of networking hardware and software, having developed methodologies for testing products from ATM switches to voice-over-IP equipment. Rob Smithers

Rob Smithers, president of Miercom, has over 12 years experience in design, troubleshooting, and testing of networking and communications products. He has tested and certified through his lab over 1000 networking products to date.

Prior to being named president, as vice president of technology, Smithers managed the competitive and interoperability test lab for three years; and has offered consulting design experience to Fortune 500 companies.

Rob has presented and taught sessions on VoIP, VPN, ATM and other technologies at trade shows such as COMNET and Networld + Interop. He has a BSEE from Lehigh University and has a reserve command in United States Army Reserves.

Betsy Yocom

Betsy, Managing Editor,, leads the Miercom research team, which publishes in-depth special reports on leading-edge technologies; develops articles for leading trade publications, and assists with consulting projects. Betsy also writes Miercom’s Summary Reports, and technical guides, based on laboratory testing results. She is credited with many by-lined articles covering topics such as VoIP, VPNs, IP PBXs, and IDS systems.

Betsy has over 20 years in technical publishing, product development and marketing. Her experience includes various technical-publishing positions with McGraw-Hill, including Group Managing Editor, Communications and New Product Development Manager at Datapro; marketing management (LANs and switches) for Bell Atlanticom Systems; and technical documentation and training management for SmithKline Beecham. Betsy's educational background includes a B.A. from Rowan University, graduate work at Wesleyan University, and an M.S. in communications from Drexel University.
