Hitachi acquires Celerant Consulting

Business consultant purchase expands Hitachi's European, North American and South American presence

Hitachi Consulting has acquired global business consultant Celerant Consulting to help expand its European, North American and South American presence.

Celerant has offices throughout the Americas, Europe and the Middle East and a global client base that spans over 57 countries, said Hitachi.

"By adding Celerant's expertise across the chemical, consumer, energy, industrial, life sciences, metals and mining sectors to our own skillset, the acquisition will provide Hitachi Consulting with a deeper level of industry-specific and associated process expertise," Hitachi said.

Hitachi Consulting is part of the Hitachi Information & Telecommunication Systems Company (ITSC) group business unit.

"Hitachi is targeting to grow revenue from the consulting business to $1.5 billion by fiscal 2015. We believe the acquisition of Celerant Consulting is key to accelerating this achievement," said Shinjiro Iwata, CEO of Hitachi ITSC.

Full details of the acquisition have not been disclosed, but it was announced Caledonia Investments will sell its 47.3% stake in Celerant Consulting to Hitachi in a deal worth around APS43.4 million.

Caledonia initially invested APS20.3 million in Celerant in May 2006, backing a management buy-out from Novell.
