A major software update for Talari Networks' WAN optimization gear will introduce automatic, virtualized configuration capabilities, dramatically improving the sophistication of its core product.
Adaptive Private Networking 3.0 will roll out as a free software upgrade to Talari customers in July, the company announced today. The main new feature of APN 3.0 is its ability to automatically re-route traffic across different pathways for the lowest possible latency – creating what Talari calls “dynamic conduits” – based on active network monitoring for connection quality.
APN 3.0 can also be centrally controlled, eliminating the need for specialized configuration in each node, and the system provides a comprehensive visual representation of the performance information it collects for administrators, allowing for greater insight into potential problems.
Talari product marketing director Donna Johnson said in a statement that APN 3.0 also adds important security and reliability upgrades.
“APN 3.0 features built-in encryption for all traffic passing across the Internet, end-to-end bandwidth reservation and failover to ensure high-quality support of unpredictable traffic, while also ascertaining that mission-critical business applications always have priority over less critical or less quality-sensitive applications,” she said.
Networking research director Peter Christy of 451 Research says that these new capabilities give Talari an important edge when it comes to providing branch WAN connectivity.
“The biggest difference is that most of the branch office WAN systems deal with the different connections independently (e.g., when a new browser request is make pick which link to use to connect that data) whereas Talari gangs them all together, manages them as a whole (will split and stripe a single connection across them) and does more sophisticated triage of traffic,” he says.
Talari will demo the technology this week at the Interop trade show in Las Vegas.
