Convirture, a provider of open source, cross-platform virtualization management tools, has announced new software designed to allow enterprises to manage private clouds, hybrid clouds and virtualized infrastructures from a single console.
Called ConVirt Enterprise Cloud, the software enables IT administrators to "manage the mix of how datacenter resources are allocated between traditional enterprise applications, private clouds and public cloud resources such as Amazon EC2," according to Convirture.
IN DEPTH: Managing cloud complexity
"By managing traditional virtualized workloads side-by-side with cloud operations, ConVirt ensures a holistic view of the entire data center and allows IT staff to react quickly to changing business priorities," Convirture founder and chief executive Arsalan Farooq said in a statement.
Enterprise Cloud is the latest software in the ConVirt virtualization management product line. The San Francisco-based company also offers ConVirt Open Source (free to download and use) and ConVirt Enterprise, which adds automation and scalability features to Open Source. The ConVirt Enterprise Starter Edition costs $2,495 and includes three concurrent hosts and unlimited virtual machines.
ConVirt Enterprise Cloud will be generally available in September, when pricing will be announced. Among its features are:
* Hybrid cloud support designed to allow enterprises to view and provision new virtual data centers and virtual machines from within the ConVirt console.
* Virtual data centers that can quickly enable new cloud clients, who are provided with a web-based user interface.
* Multi-tenant security designed to allow clients to share infrastructure resources without violating the sanctity of their private clouds.
* Flexibility in setting up networking for cloud clients that allows IT administrators to put a client on an existing enterprise network, pre-configure VLANs for clients, or allow them to create their own VLANs.
