Apple Apologizes For iPhone 4 Pre-Order Screw Ups

Apple apologizes for pre-order problems experienced by people who attempted to order the iPhone 4 on Tuesday.

Apple on Wednesday said that it saw the largest numbers of iPhone 4 pre-orders the company has ever taken in a single day, with 600,000 devices sold already.

Apple confirmed widespread reports that order and approval systems have failed, faced with the pressure of iPhone 4 demand, and apologized for the technical hiccups.

"Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration," said the Apple statement, as U.S. customers trying to order through its website encountered continuous error messages. AT&T's servers saw similar issues as well.

Queues at Apple and AT&T stores formed on Tuesday, as users flocked to the brick-and-mortar stores because they couldn't order online. At the end of the day, the iPhone 4 was completely sold out though, and Apple said it has sold 600,000 of them.

"We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock," said the statement.

The Apple iPhone 4, only the black version, is now listed on the Apple website to arrive on July 2, as the initial batch of devices has been sold out.
