So many iPhone rumors are floating around these days that's its seriously hard to keep track. It's an iPhone 5! No wait, maybe it's an iPhone 4S. Or maybe Apple will be releasing two models this Fall.
The next-gen iPhone will look like the iPhone 4, they say. Or maybe it won't and will have a completely different form factor.
Indeed, in the midst of all the hoopla of what Apple's upcoming iPhone will be called and will look like, the only thing we thought we knew for sure was that it was going to fall into the public's eagerly awaiting hands sometime in mid-September. The mid-September timeframe was relayed by a few sources not to mention reports that both AT&T and Apple UK stores were ramping up hiring for the month September.
And now it turns out that absolutely no one knows anything about the next-gen iPhone. Clearly, Apple is doing a great job of keeping this iPhone under wraps by constantly leaving us guessing.
That said, the latest report about the iPhone 5 launch comes from the oft-reliable John Paczkowski of All Things D who writes:
Sources with knowledge of the situation say reports claiming AT&T has blacked out employee vacations during the last two weeks of September in preparation for the retail debut of the next iPhone are misinformed.
“I don’t know why AT&T’s calling for all hands on deck those weeks, but it’s not for an iPhone launch,” a source familiar with Apple’s plans said.
So when can we expect the company to uncrate the iPhone 5?
“October,” the source said, while declining to offer a hard-launch date. Other sources said it will be later in the month, rather than earlier.
While All Things D may not have to live up to the same level of journalistic scrutiny as the WSJ itself, the site appropriately carries more weight than some other rumor-based sites with spotty track records.
So what can we deduce?
That the iPhone 5 is poised for an October release. That is, of course, until a report surfaces tomorrow indicating that Apple will forgo the iPhone 5 and release a 5.7-inch iPhone 6 on September 1.
