Google Fellow Ben Gomes has posted a blog item regarding a new video produced by Google about the Evolution of Search, including the notion of universal search that fetches content including not just text-based content, but images, video and more (Google says developing universal search was a huge challenge). In the video, Gomes and other Googlers trace the evolution of search but also point to the future, which promises big improvements in voice search from mobile devices (watch out Apple Siri?) and delivering answers to complex searches. Gomes says Google makes about 500 search improvements a year!
While Google is the clear leader in search, the company can't afford to relax. Even Free Software activists are taking Google on in search these days.
