The closer we get to the supposed release of the Apple iPad 3 tablet computer in March (March 7?!), the more images keep getting leaked and passed around the Web. If I were Dr. Frankenstein, I'd definitely slap all the parts together and see what it would look like.
GUESSING GAME: Hottest iPad 3 design concepts
The latest image comes this weekend from the Chinese-language Apple Daily, which shows an iPhone 4S-like 8 megapixel rear-facing camera , which would be a huge boost over the 1mp iPad 2 rear-facing camera. The images also show a more beveled-case design, which Apple Insider suggests could help accommodate a bigger battery.
Late last week another alleged iPad 3 image surfaced, this from MacRumors, which says it got ahold of a much discussed high resolution iPad 3 "Retina Display". From the site: "MacRumors has now been able to obtain one of these iPad 3 displays and examine it under a microscope in an effort to determine whether it is indeed an ultra-high resolution Retina display boasting twice the resolution of the iPad 2's screen. Physically, the purported iPad 3 display is the same size as the current iPad 1 and iPad 2 display at 9.7" in diagonal, and looks quite similar to the naked eye.
However, when comparing the iPad 3 display to one from an iPad 2 under a microscope, the difference in resolutions becomes readily apparent, with the iPad 3 display's pixels appearing to be one-quarter the size of those on the iPad 2."
More images surfaced earlier this month of the iPad 3's alleged back casing, these from a site called Repair Labs. Their take:
"A. You can see here that the mounts for the logic board are very different, which means the logic board shape will be different allowing for . . . .
B. More battery. The width of where the logic board sits on the iPad 2 appears much larger than that of the iPad 3. We have long heard that the iPad 3 was going to provide longer battery life, and this back housing seems to support that.
C. The camera is different. It is hard to make a judgment just by looking at the casing, but what we can expect is a different camera on the iPad 3 than what we had on the 2.
D. LCD will be different than what we have had before. Whether or not it will be the super screen we have seen reported will have to wait. But the different mounting does mean that the LCD has been redesigned at the very least."
Boy Genius Report kicked off the month by publishing images such as this from a debug tool that supposedly divulge the iPad 3's features, such as a quad-core A6 processor. And support for 4G LTE wireless connectivity.
