OK, fine, the headline may be a bit of an exaggeration, or at least premature, but the latest Amazon Elastic Block Storage (EBS) failure - entering hour two as I type - has knocked an untold number of sites offline, including Reddit, Airbnb, and worst of all from the standpoint of an 11-year-old boy, Minecraft.net.
The latest status update from Amazon reads: "We are currently experiencing degraded performance for EBS volumes in a single Availability Zone in the US-EAST-1 Region. New launches for EBS backed instances are failing and instances using affected EBS volumes will experience degraded performance."
My Network World colleague Brandon Butler has details here.
As for Minecraft:
My son, Grant, ought to be home from school now and unless he had no homework probably remains blissfully unaware of what has befallen his favorite game site. I'll call and break the news after getting this posted.
