The above photo purports to be a leaked shot of Apple's 5th-generation iPad. The photo lends even more credence that the upcoming iPad will sport a major redesign. It's noticeable in the photo that the bezel is much thinner a'la the iPad Mini and that the form factor will be slightly smaller while still maintaining the device's 9.7-inch screen.
It's worth noting that a number of rumors circulating around the rumor mill have also suggested Apple's 5th-gen iPad will take design cues from the iPad Mini.
Back in late January, Jeremy Horwitz of iLounge reported:
What does it look like? Well, it’s a lot smaller than one would guess was possible: in portrait orientation, picture a 9.7" screen with virtually no left or right bezels, and only enough space above and below the screen to accommodate the mandatory camera and Home Button elements. Beyond that, it’s noticeably thinner, as well, which is to say the the fifth-generation iPad will be smaller in every dimension than its predecessors. As it will have the same chamfered edges and curves, calling it a “stretched iPad mini” is very close to entirely accurate...
As for when Apple might release its next-gen iPad, well that's anyone's guess. Apple last refreshed its iPad line in late 2012 so expecting a refresh this April is far from likely. Horwitz, who has an exemplary track record when it comes to Apple rumors, noted back in January that while Apple was originally hoping for a March 2013 launch, it has since pushed back the rumored release date to sometime in October.
So while iPad fans looking for the latest and greatest may be disappointed, keep in mind that the 4th-gen iPad is barely a few months old.
