Two recent Mitel partnerships caught our attention: Windstream has signed an agreement with Mitel to offer managed UC service Offerings, and in a partnership Mitel and Vidyo have teamed to integrate Vidyo’s HD video and telepresence solution across Mitel's entire line of unified communications and collaborations (UCC) products.
Windstream will now offer Mitel’s MiVoice and MiCollab solutions in a fully managed, cloud-based Unified Communications as a Service (UcaaS) solution, powered by Mitel’s MiCloud for Service Providers. The arrangement will provide Windstream businesses customers with unified communications features, mobile and desktop collaboration, messaging and other applications on a subscription-based service. The Windstream UCaaS offering, currently in customer trials, bundles the Mitel MiVoice and MiCollab solutions with Windstream’s enterprise-class cloud solutions powered by VMware, thus offering both geo-redundancy and local survivability. General availability is targeted for fall 2013. Windstream already offers integrated SIP-based IP telephony that can be bundled with data solutions, along services such as analog or VoIP lines, unified messaging, desktop video, and a variety of other mobility solutions. Windstream offers network communications, including cloud computing and managed services, to businesses nationwide along with consumer services primarily in rural areas.
Commenting in a statement, Tim Whelehan, vice president of business development for Windstream, said, “By offering industry leading, cloud-based UC solutions such as Mitel’s MiCloud for Service Providers, we can provide the technology and expertise that helps these businesses ease into this new environment – all without the upfront capital costs of a traditional UC solution.”
In other Mitel news, Mitel and Vidyo have agreed to bring personal telepresence to the cloud by integrate Vidyo's HD video and telepresence solutions across Mitel's UCC portfolio as part of the MiCloud service the U.S. Under the reseller and distribution agreement, Mitel's global channel partners will be able to offer the end-to-end video conferencing solution, also available as a cloud offering. Early customers are already seeing significant cost savings. The Vidyo technology and Mitel's UCC are both software-based solutions that can facilitate public, private and hybrid cloud deployments.
According to a statement from Ron Wellard, EVP and GM, Mitel Communications, “getting video to actually work within the organization and especially across other media. . . has been a challenge. [The ]integrated Vidyo solution, closely tying video into [Mitel] MiCollab and MiVoice platforms will cut costs, reduce complexity and make video easily and pervasively available to enhance collaboration."
