Polycom, ShoreTel Grow Their UC Portfolios

Polycom Increases User Capacilty and Adds Video Appliance; ShoreTel Unveils New IP Phones

New product announcements to share today, with recent portfolio additions by ShoreTel and Polycom.  Polycom latest RealPresence Resource Manager software now supports up to 50,000 video user registrants; the company also unveiled its RealPresence(R) Video DualManager 400 solution, a new platform offering available on an industry-standard server designed for midsized enterprise video networks. In a separate announcement, ShoreTel launched its 400 series IP phones which includes four new IP phone models.

Polycom’s latest software release of the RealPresence Resource Manager (v8.0) can now support up to 50,000 video devices, including mobile smartphones and tablets, desktop clients, and up to 10,000 group video collaboration systems. The new release also features enhancements in monitoring, provisioning, and reporting, according to the company.

Polycom also announced updates to its RealPresence(R) Distributed Media Application (DMA v6.0), offering enhanced video operator services. The updates to Resource Manager and DMA are designed to enhance the scale and end-user experience for service providers’ customers.

The RealPresence Video DualManager 400, designed for mid-size enterprises, includes Polycom(R) RealPresence Resource Manager and  RealPresence DMA software is designed to help IT administrators manage video resources and distribute video calls, and simplify UC&C collaboration for users

In other news, ShoreTel has expanded its portfolio with four new IP phones.  According to a statement from Pej Roshan, vice president of product management at ShoreTel, “the ShoreTel 400 series IP phones incorporate the latest user feedback resulting in new functionality and optimal usability.”

The display is ergonomically designed, offering better readability with a five-way control for quick navigation through screens and menu options, and the keypad is closer to horizontal for more ease when dialing and using the function keys. The lighter handset offers more comfort and the phones have a smaller footprint for reduced use of space on the desktop. A visual voice mail feature simplifies message management, allowing users to pick the messages they want to listen to and erase or archive them from the phone screen. Built-in diagnostic tools on the 400 series IP phones are designed to make life easier for the help desk staff.

The IP 400 series phones are available now for customers looking to install a new ShoreTel 14 system and can be bundled with ShoreTel Sky services in early calendar year 2014.
