Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 5S and perhaps a lower-cost iPhone model as well on September 10. But this fall isn't just about the iPhone as Apple also has plans to refresh its iPad line up as well, at least according to a recent report from Bloomberg.
The report relays that Apple this fall will release its fifth-generation iPad - complete with a thinner design - alongside an iPad Mini with a Retina Display.
Apple Inc. is preparing to introduce a new version of the iPad with a thinner design, people familiar with the plans said, as the company works to stay atop the increasingly crowded tablet-computer market. Apple also plans to introduce a new iPad mini, the first with a high-resolution screen, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the development is private. The new iPad models are set to be introduced in the last three months of the year, one of the people said.
That would peg a release date sometime between October and December.
Apple's iPad sales aren't exactly slumping, but they're not exactly doing gangbusters as of late. Apple last refreshed its iPad lineup last October and November, so it stands to reason that sales will pick up once new models are introduced into the mix. What will be interesting to see is if Apple is able to retain the same low pricepoint on the iPad Mini with the inclusion of a Retina Display.
