Rackspace gets a new president: Its chief customer officer

Taylor Rhodes has been fanatical about supporting customers, now he's leading the company

Rackspace's company motto is that it's "fanatical" about customer support. So, it may not be surprising that it has promoted its "chief customer officer" (in Rackspace lingo: CCO) Taylor Rhodes to its vacant president position today.

Before holding the unique title of CCO, Rhodes (pictured) headed up expansion of the cloud and managed hosting provider into international locales as SVP of Rackspace International.

The company's president's role has been vacant since mid-2013 when former President Lew Moorman stepped down for personal reasons - he remained on as an adviser with the company.

Rackspace CEO Lanham Napier, Chairman Graham Weston and CTO John Engates round out the high-profile executive team that runs the company.

Rackspace is one of the leaders of the OpenStack IaaS open source cloud computing project, and is transitioning from being a traditional managed hosting provider into being one of the bevy of cloud companies looking to compete with Amazon Web Services in the cloud.

The move adds to the busy hiring season that'd underway in the cloud industry. VMware last week announced a new CTO, and Netflix lost its cloud guru to a VC firm.
