Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Division's Product Momentum

Three UC Related Announcements Last Month

During last month’s Enterprise Connect conference, we had a chance to catch up with Alcatel-Lucent’s Enterprise team to review the business unit’s progress and plans for 2014.  We spoke with Stan Corporeau, Sr. Director Solutions Marketing, and Lizardo Espinosa, also on the Solutions Marketing team.  The two noted that discussions are moving forward for Huaxin (an existing partner of Alcatel-Lucent's Alcatel Shanghai Bell joint venture in China) to acquire the business unit, subject to customary approvals.  Huaxin made a binding offer to acquire the division earlier this year.

The Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise division continues to gain market share in several areas, also evolving its portfolio. The company made three portfolio announcements at the conference-- introducing a suite of applications delivered as a service (AaaS), a new set of UC features with the release of Alcatel-Lucent OpenTouch 2.0, and a new family of Premium Desk Phones for businesses of all sizes. The new phones are available with IP or digital technologies, and they come equipped with several ergonomic enhancements, quality wideband audio, and other features.

OpenTouch 2.0 applications include the OpenTouch Conversation for PC-- designed to tie together audio, video, and web conferencing into a single interface with an updated instant message and presence management experience. OpenTouch Connection is the desktop user interface that leverages UC&C tools like instant messaging, presence and audio conferencing; it is designed to improve a virtual team environment enabling better collaboration with peers, partners and customers. The scalability of the OpenTouch 2.0 platform has been also increased to address the needs of large customers.

The third portfolio addition, the OpenTouch Personal Cloud, is offered as a cloud-hosted overlay so enterprise end users can select the communications solutions that best fit their needs. Delivered through Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise channel business partners, the service offers businesses a collection of applications, on an as needed, per-users basis.
