IT job spotting: Top 20 metro areas for tech jobs

Dice.com reports the top 20 metro areas for tech jobs, based on how much IT pros are getting paid and the number of open positions.

After two straight years of flat wages, tech pros finally got a salary bump in 2011. The average annual wage for technology and engineering pros climbed 2% to $81,327 last year, according to new data from Dice.com. In some areas, salaries jumped even higher. Tech pros reported 12% gains in Austin, Texas, and Portland, Ore., for instance. Here’s a look at salaries and job opportunities in the top 20 metro areas for tech jobs, based on data from Dice. Beginning with New York, which has the most available tech jobs as of January 2012, the slides are organized in descending order according to the number of open jobs.
