Apple announces Black Friday sale

With Black Friday just a little more than a week away, retailers are already gearing up for the year's busiest shopping season.

Now given that Apple products aren't often discounted, Black Friday provides shoppers with a somewhat rare opportunity to purchase iPhones, iPads, and Macs at attractive pricepoints. Earlier this week, Apple announced its own one-day sale slated for Friday, November 28, a sale it's taken to calling a (Red) Special Shopping Day Promo. As the name implies, portions of the proceeds from Black Friday sales will be donated to Product (RED) which has done great work towards supporting HIV/AIDS research, prevention, and awareness in Africa.

“Apple is a proud supporter of (RED) because we believe the gift of life is the most important gift anyone can give,” Tim Cook said in a press release. “For eight years, our customers have been helping fight AIDS in Africa by funding life-saving treatments which are having a profoundly positive impact. This year we are launching our biggest fundraising push yet with the participation of Apple’s retail and online stores, and some of the brightest minds in the App Store are lending their talents to the effort as well.”

As part of the promotion, Apple shoppers will be given iTunes gift cards in varying amounts depending on what they purchase. The listing is as follows:

  • iPhone 6 purchases will be accompanied with a $50 gift card
  • Select iPads will be accompanied with a $50 gift card
  • Select Macs will be accompanied by a $100 gift card
  • Apple TV, iPods, and Beats accessories will come with a $25 gift card.

Apple of course won't be the only retailer with great deals on iPhones and the like. Note that Walmart is already offering $100 gift cards with an iPad Air 2 purchase and a $75 gift card with an iPhone 6 purchase. What's more, the base model iPad Air 2 is available for $489 while the base model iPhone 6 is available for $179 (with a 2-year contract). Walmart's offer is good as long as supplies last so its best to get down there as soon as you can. Other deals on Apple products can be found at Best Buy, Target, and Sam's Club.
