AT&T has launched “AT&T UC Federation,” a service that allows suppliers, partners and customers to communicate across different networks. AT&T UC Federation was created in AT&T Labs and it supports a range of UC platforms, including Microsoft Lync and Cisco Jabber.
Features include the ability for users to communicate via instant message and view the online presence of other users as if they are all on the same UC platform. IT managers can also enable some features and block others. AT&T plans to include calendar integration and video and voice capabilities later this year; additional UC platforms may also be supported in the future. AT&T is currently offering a free 90-day trial for UC Federation for up to 25 users.
Commenting in a statement on the service, Vishy Gopalakrishnan, AVP Big Data and Advanced Solutions, AT&T Business Solutions said, "Companies that try to set up UC platforms on their own can face challenges when creating scalable, secure connectivity that meets compliance and support requirements. UC Federation from AT&T provides tools to help overcome this challenge by removing the hassle and allowing business teams to connect easily and over a highly securely platform."
In other news, BroadSoft, a leadership in supplying hosted UC service platforms, announced that it has surpassed 10 million hosted unified communications (UC) lines deployed. BroadSoft supports a broad range of service providers, including fixed, mobile, and Over the Top (OTT) players.
In its statement about achieving the 10-million mark, BroadSoft noted that “according to an August 2014 Infonetics Report, the global hosted PBX and UC services market is expected to grow from $8.5B in 2014 to $12.3B by 2018.”
Commenting in the BroadSoft statement, Diane Myers, principal analyst, Infonetics Research (a part of IHS) Inc said, “The fact that BroadSoft’s biggest customers have deployed over 500,000 hosted UC seats reinforces our market analysis that businesses are actively seeking out hosted UC solutions, and that adoption is occurring across all market segments - from SMBs to large enterprises. Surpassing 10 million hosted UC lines deployed places BroadSoft well ahead of competitors, not just in the U.S., but globally.”
