GENBAND Showcases Virtualized SBC on HP OpenNFV Platform

GENBAND and HP have been working together to integrating GENBAND’s virtualized Session Border Controller (SBC) application and cloud-based Virtual Network Function (VNF) Manager onto HP’s carrier-grade OpenNFV platform. The integration of GENBAND’s applications on the HP OpenNFV platform is designed to bring communications service providers with enhanced access and interconnection options, along with enterprise communications offers. HP’s approach to NFV is built enable other ecosystem vendors to introduce new innovations on top of the HP OpenNFV platform.

The GENBAND VNF Manager is designed to give elastic scalability to the company’s portfolio of applications including its SBC, Wireless Access Gateway and Intelligent Messaging solutions. It interworks into the NFV virtualization and orchestration environments provided by HP Helion and other HP OpenNFV components. The scalability supports NFV for cloud deployments such as signaling and media, unique commercial models, and hybrid cloud / network configurations.

Commenting in a statement on the integration, Werner Schaefer, Vice President, Network Functions Virtualization, HP said “Service providers are increasingly looking to deploy dynamic orchestration layer technologies like virtualized, elastically scalable Session Border Controllers in an NFV environment.”

John McCready, Executive Vice President of Products and Corporate Development at GENBAND added, “Our unique distributed architecture, scalable media plane processing capabilities, and elasticity approach goes far beyond what basic virtualization can achieve. By leveraging HP’s OpenNFV ecosystem and our distinct capabilities, we offer service providers the industry-leading scalability and deployment flexibility to optimize their network investment.”

In other product-related news, Unify Square software, services and support provider for Skype for Business announced it was selected as a Microsoft partners to deliver IT Pro Tools for Skype for Business deployments and ongoing operations. The solution provides end-to-end automated provisioning software for Skype for Business and is designed to reduce operational costs while improving corporate compliance posture with enterprise voice.

Ilya Bukshteyn, Group Program Manager, Skype for Business Services at Microsoft commented in a statement saying "Skype for Business IT Pro Tools partners help customers to accelerate their adoption of Skype for Business and achieve operational excellence. We are pleased to see Unify Square unveil PowerProv as its first fully automated solution."
