I don’t often write about tomatoes; OK, I have never once written about tomatoes in 40 years. But there’s a first time for everything.
A public relations professional has sent an email with the subject line, “MEDIA EVENT in Times Square (October 13th) - Free Lunch Available!:)”
So far, so routine. Every public relations professional knows that without a free lunch Woodward and Bernstein would not have covered Watergate. Now to the meat of the matter:
October is National Tomato Month and to celebrate the ever so loved fruit, (a) leading international wellness brand (not being plugged here) will be transforming Times Square into a beautiful Tomato Wonderland!
Great! I’ve never seen a tomato wonderland, though I will caution that it’s always risky to open up the tomato-fruit-or-vegetable thing.
On Tuesday, October 13th from 11am-1pm, at the Broadway Plaza & Duffy Square, in honor of National Tomato Month and the brand’s 20th Anniversary, (the unnamed company) will take over Times Square to set A Guinness World Records Achievement for the World’s Largest Display of Tomato Varieties. Attendees will be immersed in a tomato wonderland where more than 100 varieties of tomatoes from around the world will be on display to set the record. In addition, top Chefs will be on hand preparing the Largest Tomato Salad to ever be served in Times Square.
Ever served … in Times Square! No one even tries to top the monster they slapped together over in Queens a few years back.
I’d cover this event – for journalism -- but I don’t like tomatoes.
