Some staggering statistics about Amazon’s big cloud conference

On day one of AWS re:Invent the company threw out a lot of numbers. Here are some:

  1. It’s the fourth annual re:Invent and there are 278 break-out sessions
  2. There are 19,000 attendees and another 38,000 who watched the live stream on day one
  3. AWS is comprised of 11 regions, each of which is a cluster of data centers. Each region has at least one Availability Zone, with some having multiple. Two additional regions are coming soon.
  4. There are 30 Availability Zones and 50 AWS points of presence.
  5. AWS has 1 million active customers – meaning a non-Amazon entity that has used the platform in the past 30 days
  6. Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), the company’s virtual machine engine, has 95% year-over-year usage growth
  7. Simple Storage Service (S3), the company’s primary object storage service, has 120% year-over-year growth
  8. On a trailing 12-month basis, AWS has earned $7.3 billion in revenue, which is 81% year-over-year growth
  9. Database services alone account for $1 billion in annual revenue, up 127% year-over-year.
  10. The AWS Marketplace of third-party apps and services has 35 categories and 2,300 product listings from more than 800 vendors.
  11. AWS Marketplace Apps used 143 million hours of EC2 instances last month, which is up 120% year-over-year.
