Verizon for a limited time is giving away Star Wars: The Force Awakens-themed virtual reality viewers to its customers at its stores across the United States. Reportedly 200,000 of them were being doled out starting Wednesday this week, so if interested in grabbing one of these collectible Google Cardboard viewers, you'd best get yourself over to a store sooner than later.
With the anticipated movie opening on Dec. 18, tech vendors no doubt will be glomming onto the latest Star Wars entry. For its part, Verizon's tie-in with Star Wars is that you can "Make the jump to light speed. Get Verizon 4G LTE, with faster, more reliable access on the nation’s best network. And now you can use it to explore epic Star Wars experiences leading up to the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
The Cardboard viewers being given away by Verizon -- with custom designs featuring Star Wars characters Kylo Ren, R2-D2, BB-8 and a Stormtrooper -- can be used to watch teaser “Jakku Spy”videos related to the new movie.
Cardboard is literally a funky cardboard viewer designed by Google to work with Android or iPhone smartphones.
