Here are some cool products that launched last week at DEMO 2007 (produced by Network World's events team):

Seagate's DAVE (Digital Audio Video Experience) device is a flat palm-sized storage drive that offers an additional 10GB to 20GB of space for mobile phone users. The elegant device connects to a mobile phone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, and includes a USB port to connect to a PC for additional content transfer or backup. Seagate hopes that mobile phone vendors will offer DAVE devices to customers to help increase the amount of multimedia downloading that occurs via mobile phones, but enterprise users can use this as a handy storage device as well (transfer data from a phone via Bluetooth). Expect to see DAVE devices on the market in the second quarter.

Zink (Zero Ink) showed its impressive inkless digital printing system. The hardware can be embedded into a digital camera or a mobile phone to create instant photos from the device. Special Zink paper includes embedded dye crystals that the hardware "melts" to create the images without any ink. Zink officials say photos will cost about 20 cents per print, and images take about 30 seconds to print, regardless of width. Expect to see mobile printers and a digital camera with the photo printer attachment by year-end.

Enterprise telecom managers who want a way to give wireless e-mail to employees without having to buy a BlackBerry, Treo or other expensive smart phone should check out TeleFlip. The company has an elegant way to deliver e-mail (consumer or business accounts) over SMS to any phone without additional hardware, software or extra data plans. The free service (5,000 "flips" per month) will launch in early March, officials say. Signing up for the service just requires a name, e-mail address and e-mail password (one-time entry), and then e-mails from that account will be sent to the user's phone. Users can reply to the e-mail through the phone, and the receiver of the reply gets a regular e-mail, not a text message. Filtering features let users choose which e-mails they receive on their phone (good for heavy e-mail users), or when they receive flipped messages.

One of the new social networking sites I liked was from OurStory.com. This is more than just another blogging site, it gives people the ability to create their life story on a digital basis, and share stories privately with friends and family (or go public). The interface is extremely easy to use, giving users the chance to attach a specific date to an entry and then present the entries in a visually pleasing timeline. The ability to add videos and photos to the timeline make it easier to look at than a normal blog, and the company has teamed with online book publishers (including Blurb) to let users create books based on their life stories. If you've ever wanted to write your own life story or another family member's, this is the easiest tool I've seen to get you started.
