Every time I read a story about some administrator or security person crying about insecure Microsoft operating systems, I have to smile. Remember Novell? Considering Microsoft 2007 is a very poor replica of Novell 1995, just imagine where networking would be today if everyone hadn't gone running to Microsoft and Novell could have kept research going.
Remember that admin who caused you to switch to Microsoft several years ago? It takes him and nine more Microsoft servers, with an admin for each one, to equal each Novell server you had before. He suckered you right into job security, didn't he?
Microsoft loves you too! Now you need nine more server licenses and nine more Microsoft MCSEs, for which you paid Microsoft handsomely, for each Novell server you had, just to maintain your security nightmare of a network from Microsoft. Come on, chin up! You don't have time to feel dumb. Your servers are being attacked as we speak.
Oh, gosh, you don't have a choice. Microsoft is all that is left that point-and-click dummies can try to run. The other network operating system? Microsoft is suing them for patent issues. You don't want to get caught up in that.
Better to hire more administrators, buy more servers and licenses and stick with Microsoft. People will understand that you have Microsoft when their personal data is on the Internet. They understand the 'patch-an-hour' concept behind Microsoft, and fully accept the constant breaches in security, just as you did when you tossed out Novell.
