I am having difficulties with my Macbook. I installed Leopard and I purchased Windows XP Home, but during the install process Boot Camp started sending an error message. I am stuck in a screen that asks for the boot disk. On the first screen of the install, there is a choice to print out the instructions for installing Windows XP, and that is when the first error message is given that Boot Camp isn't working. I was able to start the install over, but after doing part of the install, the disk is not ejected and the error message comes up as "disk error, press any key to restart" which doesn't work when I press any key.
There are problems with Boot Camp and XP involving the formatting of the partition chosen for the Windows install on Intel Macs running Leopard, which may be leading to the errors you are seeing. You may be able to successfully complete the XP installation under Boot Camp by restarting the installation procedure and then deleting the new Windows partition you created, then re-creating it when given the opportunity to reformat the partition during the Windows install. Start by rebooting with the Windows disk in the CD drive and holding down the option key on the Mac. Select the Windows CD to boot from. Go through the initial setup steps and when asked to install a new version of XP, press Enter, and here you should be given the option to reformat the partition for Windows. Reformat the partition. Do not delete it and create a new one here, just choose the reformat option. As you proceed through the XP installation and need to reboot multiple times remember to choose to boot into Windows each time. The reformatting step only needs to be performed once and should clear up the installation trouble you are running into.
