Your 15-year-old computer hotshot knows more about routers than half the people in your department and you couldn’t be prouder that he keeps the home network humming like a pro’s pro. After all, you’ve taught him everything he knows.
So, have you ever been tempted to bring him into work on, say, a quiet Sunday morning and let the kid have at one of those Cisco bad boys? You know, let him under the hood for a couple hours – production gear, mind you, not some ancient spare tucked in a closet -- just to see if he really has the chops.
What? That would be nuts, you say? A one-way ticket to the unemployment line?
Then you probably wouldn’t let him perform a Caesarean section, either.
Meet Dr. and Mrs. K. Murugesan of New Delhi. From the Associated Press:
The 15-year-old son of two doctors performed a filmed Caesarean section birth under his parents' watch in southern India in an apparent bid to gain a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest surgeon.
Instead, the boy's father could be stripped of his licenses and may face criminal charges, officials said Thursday.
We all know that even doctors are capable of doing incredibly stupid things, but help me sort out which is dumber here: what the good doctor and his wife did? Or why they did it?
And what makes them think Doogie Howser wasn’t younger anyway?
Now give your kid a pat on the head and yourself a pat on the back for being a grownup.
