This marks the sixth time I’ll get to experience Father’s Day as a father. If you’re like me, you like to play with gadgets and other cool electronics stuff. This also marks the start of summer, which means there’s lots of gadgety-type outdoor gear to experience.
The folks at Sears did a poll of shoppers on its Sears Blue Electronics Crew Facebook Page about what they wanted for Father’s Day. Skipping the inevitable question about the type of person who would follow the Sears Blue Electronics Crew on Facebook, here are the results:
• 52% want “the latest HDTV”.
• 28% want a “tablet or netbook” (seriously?)
• 13% want a “DSLR or Camera”
• 6% want a “gaming console”.
Sadly, nobody responded that they wanted a day away from their family, which I suspect would rank higher than “the latest HDTV”. But, I digress.
If you are one of those dads who wants to receive some kind of gadget for your “special day”, or are looking to geekify the great outdoors this summer, here’s a list of some of my favorite and latest gadgets.
Dad stuff:

Henieken Beer Tender by KRUPS ($99.99): For those Dads lucky enough to have their own man-cave or bar in the basement – this device is compatible with Heineken, Heineken Light and Newcastle beers, and provides a silent cooling system that keeps the beer at the “ideal temperature” of 41 degrees Farenheit.
Novero Tour headset ($79.90): A Bluetooth stereo headset that folds up for portability, the Novero Tour also lets you listen to music on your phone and lets you hear your phone call hands-free (the system pauses your music when a call comes in).
Kodak Playfull digital camcorder (model Ze1, $130): Sure, the Cisco Flip may be going away, but you can still get your hands on a nice tiny digital camcorder for quickly recording cool moments with the kids. The Kodak Playfull offers 1080p HD recording, digital image stabilization, a 5 megapixel camera for still photos, and easy uploading to YouTube and other sites via the Share button. Videos and images can be stored on an SD/SDHC memory card, and a USB adapter pops out of the camera for easy connection and synchronization with a PC/Mac.
Perfect Chair with Laptop Desk attachment ($2,800): Inspired by NASA astronauts (the neutral body posture), the Perfect Chair recliner puts the body in a virtually weightless position for relaxation and “minimum muscle tension”. The Laptop Desk attachment lets you secure a book, iPad or notebook to the chair so you can “work” while relaxing in the chair.
Sony bloggie Duo digital camcorder ($150): Like the Kodak camera, this one from Sony offers Flip owners a digital camcorder for recording quick moments. The MHS-FS2 model includes 4GB of built-in flash memory, can record 1080p HD video, and has a 5.15 megapixel digital camera. The “duo” is the dual-screen on the device, letting you do self-recordings easier than with other camcorders (in case Dad has his own video blog, or wants to start one). The included software allows for social media sharing of photos and videos.
