At TechEd North American 2009, Microsoft announced that its next release of SQL Server - codenamed Kilimanjaro - will now be dubbed SQL Server 2008 R2.

Although IT professionals and the general public are used to seeing R2 at the end of Microsoft product releases, many of them still want clarification on what it means for SQL Server.

SQL Server BITS Conference in Manchester, United Kingdom on March 28th, 2009. 

SQL Server BITS is one of the biggest SQL Server Conferences in Europe.   It will be held on March 28th, 2009 @ the Manchester Metropolitan University.  There will be 28 SQL Server sessions by industry experts in one place on one day.  I will be presenting on SQL Server security.  Therefore, if you are in the area feel free to swing on by.

I am a PC, I am a MVP and I love Windows 7

It sounds like I am drinking the MS cool aid huh?  I just returned from the Microsoft MVP Summit in Seattle and had a spectacular time.  There was approximately 1500 to 2000 MVPs from all over the world present at the summit.  As a SQL Server MVP, I had the opportunity to network with my SQL colleagues and attend sessions on what's new for SQL Server 11, what's new for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7.  In addition, there was plenty of interactive sessions and round table discussions which allowed us to directly influence the feature sets of the new technologies.

SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 available via Microsoft Update

FYI…SQL Server 2005 SP3 has been available on the Microsoft Download Center
since 12/15/2008.  However, as of tomorrow SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 will be available via Microsoft Update.  Therefore, watch for the download if you have configured automatic updates.

Reduce IT Spending While Still Upgrading to SQL Server 2008

With the economy taking a dive many IT managers are concerned over spending and not too sure if they should upgrade their database applications to SQL Server 2008.  The latest features and functionality included out-of-the-box with SQL Server 2008 will allow IT managers to save a tremendous amount of money and at the same time reduce management costs, hence it is worth the investment and you should upgrade to SQL Server 2008.

Leveraging the New SQL Server 2008 Activity Monitor Performance Dashboard
