Apple media event in January to focus on publishing and iBooks

Apple is planning a special media-related event this month in New York according to a new report from Kara Swisher of All Things D. But before you get too excited, the event will not be centered on the upcoming iPad 3 or the mythical Apple HDTV.

Notably, Eddy Cue, Apple’s newly minted Senior VP of Internet Software and Services, is expected to head up the event. To this end, Swisher points out that the last time Cue was in New York was to help roll out The Daily, Apple’s joint venture with News Corp. to produce a daily iPad-only newspaper.

Fleshing out a few of the event details, TechCrunch reported earlier today that the event will focus on publishing and enhancements to iBooks. What’s more, the event will be more geared towards publishing professionals than consumers.

Aside from that, details remain scarce but we’ll keep you posted as developments come in..
