Burning an iPad in lava: Desperate attempt for viral video kinda works

iPad/iPhone case company gets a few hundred thousand YouTube views, takes rations of grief too

By Alpha Doggs on Tue, 12/13/11 - 9:47am.

An iPad/iPhone case company has resorted to a lame viral video attempt to call attention to its products (although we're embedding the video below, we'll leave their name out to forego any additional Search Engine Optimization benefits). The company CEO is shown heading to Hilo  in Hawaii to dip and then burn an Apple iPad in volcanic lava.

I figured the point was that they'd dip it in, show the iPad alerting us the temperature was too hot, then rescuing the iPad with one of the company's super duper cases. But nope, the tablet is just left to burn, as flute-y music plays in the background. The video has grabbed several hundred thousand YouTube views since posting Dec. 9, and Likes are outnumbering Dislikes for now, so I guess the effort has proven worthwhile for the company. Though the bulk of the comments are negative, taking the company to task for wasting an expensive toy like an iPad, polluting the environment and making a pointless video. One commenter suggests the CEO should have been dipped in the lava instead...

This sort of thing has been done much better by companies, such as  ruggedized phone makers, showing their devices can withstand powerful blenders.
