Do we really need a vacuum-sealed iPad bag?

Product aims to keep out sand, water for beach-going iPad users

iPad bag - really?Got an email from Dry Corp. about their DryCASE Tablet, "the only vacuum-sealed, fully-enclosed waterproof case that protects your iPad/Kindle from water damage." It's aimed at users who want to go to the beach or pool and use their tablet without fear of damaging the device from sand.

Do we really need this? Are we so desperate that we need to bring our iPad or Kindle with us to the beach or pool? Check out this line from the press release: "Perhaps you want to watch a movie by the pool or use your favorite app in the bathtub? Now you can."

Look, I'm all in favor of waterproof cases that help protect a cell phone when you go to the beach or pool, but it smacks of lameness that someone would be bringing their $400+ device to these areas. Hey, want to watch a movie? Watch it at your hotel room! If you're at the beach, shouldn't you be doing something other than using your iPad?
