Interop's still got some kick

Plenty of action at this week's Interop.

This week's Interop in Las Vegas is proving why the trade show is still around after 25 years, with some early fireworks and new products that demonstrate just how vital the networking industry remains.

We had predicted in our Interop planner that cloud computing and virtualization would dominate the show, and yeah, we know that was an easy prediction to make.

Already we've seen HP make a big splash with switches and an architecture that target virtualization specifically. More surprisingly was the way HP really went after Cisco in its keynote address with guns blazing, though Cisco did not retaliate in kind during its portion of the keynote, as Jim Duffy reports.

Dell introduced switches and wireless equipment, again with the theme of supporting a virtualized environment.

Extreme Networks covered cloud computing as well, rolling out two switches designed to get users from Point A to Point Cloud. And Riverbed joined forces with Akamai to provide technology and services that optimize WAN traffic between corporate data centers and cloud-based providers.
