iPhone 4S nets over 1 million pre-orders in 24 hours

Steve Jobs didn't care much for industry experts and pundits, which is why it's particularly fitting that the iPhone 4S stands ready to be the most successful iPhone launch to date.

Despite a mass of tech pundits labeling the iPhone 4S a somewhat disappointing upgrade, consumers don't seem to agree. Earlier today, Apple issued a press release stating that they've received over 1 million pre-ordres for the iPhone 4S in under 24 hours. Adding some context to that figure, Apple handled 600,000 iPhone 4 pre-orders in the first 24 hours after the device became availab.e

“We are blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do.”

Highlighting the popularity of the device, AT&T announced this weekend that they processed over 200,000 iPhone 4S orders in under 12 hours, making it the most successful iPhone launch in AT&T history.

It's funny how some people get so wrapped up in the things the iPhone 4S doesn't have (i.e a larger screen) that they actively ignore all of the signficant improvements Apple put into the iPhone 4S. From the speedy A5 processor to a tantalizingly good camera, to 1080p HD video recording and Apple's potentially game-changing voice recognition software, the iPhone 4S may look liek the iPhone 4 but it's anything but.

And so while some critics might call the iPhone 4S a lackluster upgrade, the people who really matter - consumers in this case - can't wait to get their hands on Apple's latest device.
