IT pro has close encounter with meteorite

Two guys minding their own business at a cricket match when ...

IT consultant Jan Marszel was watching an English cricket match with a pal Richard Haynes when from out of nowhere came flying toward them a five-inch rock, which upon hitting the field directly in front of them broke in two.

From the Telegraph of London:

"We were sitting at the boundary edge when all of a sudden, out of a blue sky, we saw this small dark object hurtling towards us. It landed five yards inside the boundary and split into two pieces.

"One piece bounced up and hit me in the chest and the other ended up against the boundary board. It came across at quite a speed - if it had hit me full on it could have been very interesting."

You have to love that British understatement.

If confirmed as a meteorite, it would be the first documented occurrence of one in the UK since 1992 ... and the first at a cricket match since who knows when.
