'The Joy of Books' tap dances all over your Kindle

And for a bonus: See how different people receive a geeky wedding gift differently

I don’t recommend many videos here, but this paean to books – bookshelf books -- is worth your minute and 51 seconds (and, if you have more time, there’s a geeky anniversary-gift “controversy,” courtesy of the same artist, at the end of the post).

First, “The Joy of Books”:

The artist responsible for the video, Sean Ohlenkamp, lives in Toronto and works for Lowe Roche, a marketing company. He writes on YouTube:

“After organizing our bookshelf almost a year ago (next embedded video), my wife and I decided to take it to the next level. We spent many sleepless nights moving, stacking, and animating books at Type bookstore in Toronto. Everything you see here can be purchased at Type Books. Grayson Matthews generously composed the beautiful, custom music. But none of it could have been done without all the volunteer hands who shelved and reshelved books all night, every night.”

As for reviews: “Likes” are outnumbering “dislikes” 3,784 to 23 on YouTube as I type.

"I think it's amazing,” bookstore owner Joanne Saul tells Huffington Post Canada. “There were moments in the video that I gasped. (It) says long live the book. It's not dead. It gets up and it dances."

And a YouTube commenter raves: “I have watched this 7 times already this morning! Must go back to work!”

Finally, as promised, here’s a bonus video Ohlenkamp created last year as a geeky anniversary gift for his wife, Lisa Blonder Ohlenkamp:

I liked this video a lot, too. But what I found most fascinating was the mixed reaction it got in the comment section of The Hairpin, a self-described “women’s Web site.”

Many loved it; a few swooned. And then there were the likes of this: “Am I the only one who found this cheesy and stupid? I mean, I am even more Cranky McBitterpants today than usual, but still? Get a present that involves getting up from your computer.”

My translation of that sentiment: “Spend some money on me, Mr. Creativity.” (We don’t know whether Ohlenkamp did that, too, or not.)
