While the majority of our research participants are either supporting, or planning to add support for iPhone, Android devices haven’t gotten quite the attention in the enterprise as their counterparts from Apple. That’s starting to change as witnessed by Verizon’s recent report that its new Droid X Android phone has sold out in several parts of the country.
The success of Droid X, along with both Sprint’s HTC EVO and of course the iPhone continues to underscore the need for pro-active mobility management to enable companies to quickly evaluate if and how to support new mobile devices. Absent a formal mobility strategy not only are companies constantly reacting to new devices, but they also lack any way to evaluate how the organization can leverage new mobile platforms to improve worker productivity, deliver new applications or services, or even support customer demands for customized mobile application.s
Those companies with an enterprise mobility strategy that includes risk assessment and evaluation of application needs consistently cite a greater overall success rate for their mobile initiatives.
