ShoreTel last week acquired privately held Agito Networks, gaining ownership over Agito’s enterprise FMC platform.
Agito’s solution enabled IT shops to integrate mobile phones such as BlackBerry and iPhone into their enterprise UC infrastructure to enable capabilities such as single number reachability, dialing out via the corporate phone system, presence sharing, call data record and address book integration, and the ability for devices to easily roam between WiFi and cellular wireless networks. Agito also offered APIs enabling customers to write their own connections between the Agito mobile client and other enterprise applications.
Nemertes has tracked growing interest among IT leaders in integrating mobile devices into their UC strategy; largely driven by the increasingly mobile and virtual workforce who more than ever rely on their smartphone and/or tablet as their primary communications device. Solutions such as those from Agito as well as Avaya, Cisco, CounterPath, Mitel, Siemens, Sprint, and Varaha, enable integration of a wide variety of mobile devices with both IP and TDM PBXs. Eleven percent of organizations say they have at least some wireless-only users, with an average of 1.8 percent of staffers using wireless-only devices, numbers we expect to grow rapidly in the coming years.
