The Smithsonian American Art Museum wants the public to vote for their favorite video game artwork as part of its exhibition, “The Art of Video Games”, which will go on display next March (March 16, 2012 through Sept. 30, 2012).
The exhibition explores “the 40-year evolution of video games as an artistic medium, with a focus on striking visual effects and the creative use of new technologies,” the museum says on its Web page. Chris Melissinos, the founder of Past Pixels and a collector of video games and gaming systems, is curating the exhibition, the museum says.
The voting lets the public (you have to register) vote for 80 games from a pool of 240 choices in categories, divided by gaming era (5 eras from the 1970s through today), game type and platform. You can also follow the exhibition on Twitter by following @americanart or using the #taovg hashtag. Voting continues through April 7, 2011.
