This week in System Center 2012

Release Candidate availability sparks coverage and events

By Kerrie Meyler on Thu, 01/19/12 - 1:27pm.

As you may have heard by now, Microsoft released the release candidate of System Center 2012 on Tuesday, announced during their "Transforming IT with Microsoft Private Cloud Virtual Event" on Tuesday. Just two days later, I see at least 112 news articles related to System Center 2012!

Here's a smattering of those articles:

I think you get the idea. There's definitely some excitement. This is the first time Microsoft is releasing all of the System Center components at the same time, planned for later this year, which definitely appears to be making a difference in how the product is perceived. With the System Center 2012 announcement, Microsoft is also pitching private cloud and redoing licensing for the product.

And if that isn't enough for one week, today is the System Center Universe (www.systemcenteruniverse.com), sponsored and organized by Catapult and more specifically, Cameron Fuller,my longtime coauthor in the Operations Manager Unleashed series. System Center Universe 2012 is a one-day event in Austin, Texas, available virtually across the world.  The different components are being discussed by Wally Mead (Configuration Manager), Baelson Duque (Operations Manager), Travis Wright (Configuration Manager), Cameron Fuller taking up for Mahesh Unnikrishnan (Virtual Machine Manager - winter weather in Redmond prevented Mahesh from making it to Austin), Jason Buffington (Data Protection Manager), and Pete Zerger (Orchestrator and coauthor for the upcoming System Center 2012 Orchestrator Unleashed). Quite a week for System Center 2012, and its only Thursday!
