Your e-reader has gone missing. Now what?

Don't be expecting GPS to help you out

Mashable this morning has a post headlined, "What to do if your e-reader is lost or stolen," which I read in part because my daughter recently acquired our family's first Kindle.

Much of the advice is commonsensical, but a couple of thoughts occurred while reading the piece.

First is the major takeaway: Putting any kind of sensitive information on these things is a bad idea.

The second was relative to the Sony Reader: "You will need to have the e-reader's serial number to report its loss."

Hmmm. If you're the type who keeps handy the serial number of your e-reader, chances are you're not the type to let it go missing in the first place.
