Final CES keynotes

As CES wraps up today, here are the final keynote speakers scheduled for this afternoon (all times PST):

  • 1 p.m.: Intel chairman Craig Barrett
  • 2 p.m.: Panel on creating universal access to technology, featuring SEVEN Fund co-founder Michael Fairbanks, Grameen Solutions CEO Kazi Islam, inventor William Kamkwamba and Kentaro Toyama, an assistant managing director at Microsoft Research India.
  • 3 p.m.: Closing keynote address from Cisco CEO John Chambers

The Palm Pre

The New York Times reports on Palm's attempt to take on the iPhone:

Seeking to revive its sharply fallen fortunes and produce a successor to its aging Treo device, Palm on Thursday unveiled a new smartphone, the Pre, and an exclusive partnership with Sprint to distribute it.

This morning's CES keynotes

CES will be opening up its showroom floor shortly and there are two big keynote speeches on tap for this morning:

  • Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) President and CEO Gary Shapiro, who will give a state of the industry address.
  • Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer.

Later in the day, Ford Motor company CEO Alan Mulally will deliver his keynote, which will presumably address the latest in in-vehicle technology. We'll be posting updates as we get them.

Ballmer/Microsoft CES Keynote

You can get a live stream of Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer's keynote speech at CES here. Right now they're talking mostly about Windows 7 features. PC World has more on Windows 7 here.

The next Android phone: the Kogan Angora, at CES

This week at CES, Kogan Technologies will showcase its just-announced Android-based smartphone, Kogan Angora.

The Australian company has just released a video and some actual photos (previously only renderings, apparaently, were displayed on the site).

Cisco hungry for a piece of the consumer electronics pie

From Cisco Subnet: Cisco wants you to think of its brand when you think consumer electronics. Going against big guns like Apple and Sonos it has been busy pre-briefing journalists about its push into the consumer electronics space, which Cisco CEO John Chambers, said would be worth $10 billion to Cisco in 5 years.

Among the products it announced today include a wireless multiroom audio system and a digital media network-attached storage device.

Hello all, this is Network World staff writer Brad Reed welcoming you to the official NWW blog for this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The show doesn't officially kick off until later tonight when Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer delivers his opening keynote, and the showroom floor isn't due to open until tomorrow morning.
