Water In the Data Center ...

0

Water in the Data Center is nothing new .. HOWEVER, even with some of the most ingenious solutions being developed by IBM, HP, Rittal, etc. , one problem CONTINUES to face IT with water cooled devices ..

WHERE do they get the chilled water/condensor water to feed these devices ? Almost every data center already built was done so to a specification of providing a maximum GPM (Gallons Per Minute) to existing cooling devices (i.e. CRACs or CRAHs). The problem with these supplemental cooling systems present is that they demand MORE water (Chilled or Condensor) than is already available without ronbbing existing CRAC/CRAH's of their capacity ..
By providing supplemental cooling systems (i.e. Door coolers, overhead heat exchangers, etc.) with the water resources, there's none left for the base cooling systems. Once you've reached your maximum of GPM that your chilled water/condensor water plant is designed for, you can't get more without an EXPENSIVE upgrade to existing facilities.
Soo, take it out of your CRAC/CRAHs and put it into your supplemental systems or leave it in the CRAC/CRAH, but you can't do BOTH ...
