a ban?

0

A "ban on iPods" would be both too specific (i.e., wouldn't cover thumb drives, cameras, pencil & paper, etc., on which data can just as easily be stolen) and too broad (i.e., 99+% of its impact would be to insult all the well-intentioned workers, just as my workplace ban on Wikipedia does). So it might give some "Security" Nazi a false sense of control/security, but by creating a toxic workplace environment, would be harmful.

Apple's responsibility? To disable a key benefit? Maybe if these were passed out to employees from the employer who wanted to provide a "safe" employee perk. Perhaps they should modify the sticker that packages the iPod: "Don't steal music, nuclear secrets or Captain Queeg's marbles?"

The idea seems to originate from a nutcase, but was the editor on vacation all week?
