9/11 gave us the DHS. Another 9/11 (e.g., Katrina) would just strengthen their control over the network, which in turn would put more money into trying to figure out how to monitor our email and MySpace, and less on trivial and unnecessary things like redundant routes. Remember, it's not whether the network is reliable which counts, but whether it is spyable.
