Up till 10 years ago, ISP's handed out routable addresses at no costs. If you'd asked them you even got a block of 4, 8 or even more at little cost!

Nowaday most people get dynamics addresses, and have to use NAT for additional equipment. For most people this is no problem. Yet.

When migrating from POTS to VOIP, you find out that NAT is a PITA. V6 is *the* way to go.

With expanding economy in Asia and Africa, fair chance that they will be the frontrunners in using V6, as the v4 addresses wil become a scarce and expensive commodity.

Other major point: Build-in support for secure tunnels.
Better be prepared soon: First get a tunnel-broker, next dual-stacked ISP, and finally just native IPv6
