A long fight ahead with no reason to think Microsoft will win

0

The story says.
"Turbolinux will develop new tools to translate documents between ODF and Office 2007 Open XML. Two weeks ago, Sun released the first version of its own ODF translator add-in for Office. The Sun ODF Plugin works with Office 2000, 2003 and XP."

Maybe, between Google's hosted office applications and what looks to be a soon-to-be booming market for ODF translators, Microsoft's native support of ODF won't be so important in the long run. Would have maybe made the world a nicer place if Microsoft cooperated, but we'll see how it plays out.
Years ago, IBM resisted the move from proprietary networking protocols (Token Ring) to open standards (Ethernet). They were the 800-pound gorilla of the day protecting their turf. But look how it worked out -- you don't see many Token Ring networks around these days.
