DHCP (And DHCPv6) is an excellent Enterprise IT host autoconfiguration service. It is well known and easily integrates with network access control and authentication services.

RFC 2462 IPv6 stateless autoconfiguration is more important to support ad-hoc mobile networks, hastily formed networks, and the "Internet of Things" with sensors, controls, and actuators.
