We are using HP networking product named HP AdvanceStack 18 years ago. after 5years, we can't get support due to End of Life. HP reseller just said "you have to paid for the extended warranty as HP is no longer focus its networking business.

8 years ago, HP OEM from Accton, a Taiwanese networking manufacturer. The quality is poor and unstable but price higher comparing 3Com and Cisco.

Now HP offering lifetime warranty for it procurve brand, can HP CEO or Board of director guarantee their product end of life still with warranty support and replacement ??? FREE ? I'm doubt. What happen HP decide to quit networking business ? Who can guarantee ? example like Intel quit their networking business in earlier 2000.

To make me believe HP, I will demand a legal letter to state details of lifetime warranty.

We move to Cisco in 2000 when 3Com quit their ATM Core builder switches family. Cisco switch is stable but expensive.

In 2005, Cisco end of life its Cat 5000 and 6000 series. They demand us to paid premier for its maintenance and warranty. We decide to evaluate 3Com new range of Enterprise Switching ie. Switch 8800 series and 4200 series. Performance, stability, technical features all matching industy expectation. Some even better than Cisco and HP. We give a try on 3Com.

Till now. everything is great. less problem. especially the integration of Tippingpoint IPS auto-quarantine. Is simple to use and manage. Price better. no client lic fees.

3Com is getting much better after change of board of director and CEO.

3Com have long history in networking industry. Longer than Cisco. Despite their crisis in year 2000, 3Com still continue to support their customer and partner. I think 3Com brand still the best. Try yourself. Better Price. Highest Security. Good performance and reliable.
