And Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzman can not only count to 11/4 and 14/8, but he's also a marine biologist. But of course a lot of the 60s musicians had friends who did chemical engineering of various sorts... as well as doing large amounts of accoustical engineering because nobody really knew how to do concert recording before then.
